The company has been making headlines lately with its recent projects, including the contract to build Burj Dubai, set to be the tallest building in the world. Arabtec will be working in joint venture with the Samsung Corporation, Korea, and Besix Constructions, Belgium for this project. Work on the project commenced earlier this month and the building is slated to be completed in December 2008.

Arabtec has also successfully pre-qualified as part of a Consortium for the proposed Dubai Light Railway project. With the anticipated value of the Dubai Light Rail project being set at USD 4 billion, the Consortium – collectively known as Metro One – will bring together some of the biggest names in the industry, including Bombardier (Canada), Odebrecht (Brazil), Guris (Turkey), Ghella Group (Italy) and Parsons (USA).

The Dubai Light Rail project is about 70km rail network that will span the business district of Dubai. A maximum payload of 40-50,000 passengers per hour can travel on the railway network, which is set to open in 2009.
