On the importance of organizing such a conference, Dr. Nabyl Chenaf, Chair and Associate Professor of Architecture and Interior Design at AUD, comments: “Having kicked off in 2002, the CAAD Conference has become a platform for innovative, academic and professional exchange and has brought regional attention to Dubai in general and to AUD in particular.”
The conference draws, on an annual basis, an immense turnout from the AUD faculty and students, as well as from high profile dignitaries and professionals from pertinent vocational scopes. On the objective of this year’s conference, Dr. Chenaf adds: “The theme of this year’s conference is ‘[re] Design [er].’ Bridging the gap between the design and the designer’s background/experience is a fundamental issue that is frequently implied and rarely explored. The conference’s objective is not only to emphasize that observation but also to reinterpret design through the designer’s background and experience. In other words, ‘Who you are determines what you do,’ and, ‘You are what you design.’”
In his opening remarks, Dr. John Alexander Smith, Professor of Architecture and Interior Design at AUD, asserted that with AUD’s strong reputation and growing strength of students, the impact of the conference has reached a very influential set of people that have designed some of the prestigious projects as well as their associates, partners and representative in the vertically integrated industry of Architecture.
Presentations were followed by a Q & A session whereby the speakers attended to the audience’s queries regarding the Interior Design industry.
