Workshop on current and future academic programs

Ajman University of Science & Technology organized a workshop on “Current & Future Academic Programs”. A comprehensive day of review and revision of programs was witnessed by Faculty members, distinguished guests from regional cultural attaché offices and honorable members of the Higher Education Commission.

It aimed at developing the programs currently offered by reviewing their performance in the light of feedbacks and intercollege discussions. The workshop also entailed the consideration of introducing new programs in the coming academic year. These will be based upon the future needs of local and regional labor markets. Presently, AUST hosts 61 nationalities which also include a major number of students from the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Countries. This makes the University a key partner in supporting human development plans in the UAE and the region.

Mr. Osama Saeed Salman, Vice- President of AUST, initiated the workshop proceedings by welcoming the honorable guests and appreciating the relentless efforts by the Colleges and its members in achieving excellence in education. He stressed that the best way forward was by understanding the current market needs and foreseeing the future requirements, by emphasizing on scientific research and development a great idea can be blossomed into a futuristic project.

Citing an example of the College of Information Technology which evolved its programs based on the 2013 workshop by restructuring them to the dynamic market of technology. Their adaption to the future needs resulted in technologically advanced students who are able to handle the current demands of the labor market.

Mr. Osama Salman, also pointed out the exceptional initiative by AUST of launching the project of “AUST Science Park” supported by His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Ajman and the Chairman of the board of trustees of AUST. AUST Science Park heralds a new era of research and education in the Northern Emirates, the implementation of this project will enhance the role of higher education in preparing the future generations to be competent and empowered with the skills and knowledge that can contribute positively to nation-building.

Specifically designed to foster research in the field of medicine and engineering by forging ties with renowned scientific institutions it seeks to equip the coming generation of graduates with the skill sets needed to excel in their chosen field.

The workshop was divided into two intensive sessions in which the Deans of the respective colleges presented summaries of their current programs and proposed future paths to achieve par with the upcoming economic changes in the region. They proposed development plans for the programs and also the proposed future academic programs and their benefits for the students.

The recommendations of each College was discussed and reviewed by the panel in the light of expert opinions by the representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education and Cultural Attaches of the GCC countries. This workshop signifies AUST’s commitment to solidarity of education and the role it plays in developing the human capital of UAE and the region through excellence in education and research.
