Fashion favourites at AusStyle 2007

United Arab Emirates: Thursday, December 13 - 2007 @ 11:31

10 top Australian designers were brought up for the AusStyle 07 event last month and it was from here that the boutiques signed the designers who are already well established names on the local Australian & international scene.

Event organizer Milica Duric of the Australian Trade Commission says mixing Australian styles with fashion-savvy retailers is always a successful formula in the Middle East.

“The leading local boutiques are the ones pushing boundaries in the Dubai fashion scene, whereas the larger retailers are sometimes hesitant to take on more avant-garde labels,” she says. “The indication from customers who attended the show and viewed collections was that they’re hungry for unique labels and anxious for more retailers to catch up with the needs of the market.”

“Australian fashion is all about pushing the boundaries and designing suitable clothes for the climate and culture.”

The theme for this year’s event was La Dolce Vita (a beautiful life) as it “encompassed both the Australian lifestyle and the lifestyle we have here in the GCC”, says Ms Duric.

Sacha Drake, from the fashion label Sacha Drake says they were extremely well received at the event.

“We were bombarded by women wanting to know where they can buy Sacha Drake dresses in Dubai,” she says. “We’re delighted the Eve Michelle Boutique has decided to pick us up and a beautiful selection of dresses will arrive in store just in time for Christmas.”

Other designers picked up at AusStyle 07 event were Verduci-Smith by Tigerlilly and Chocolate & Pickles; Ghost & Lola by Sauce, Boom & Mellow and Chocolate & Pickles; Marniinako by Eve Michelle and Chocolate & Pickles and Charlie Brown was picked up by Tigerllilly.

This is the third year for the event which every year sees AusStyle hand pick a new group of innovative and successful designers with proven commercial appeal to introduce to the Dubai market.

Sponsors for AusStyle 2007 included The Monarch Dubai, HSBC Bank International, ModelCraft, Lexus, as well as Aldo, Etihad Airways, Harper’s Bazaar, L’Oreal Profissionnel, Model Co, Pinctada Pearls and Quintessentially.
