Bahrain Polytechnic Web Media students were awarded at the Polytechnic for winning first and second prize in the 2014 Red Carpet Short film competition on June 8th 2014.
The competition attracted more than 150 participants, supervisors and teachers. Competing teams submitted their short films to a panel of expert judges.
The award ceremony was held on Wednesday 21st May at Cinema 20 in Bahrain’s City Centre and allowed participants to see their work projected onto Bahrain’s largest cinema screen in front of an enthusiastic audience.
The short film competition is a yearly event organized by the General Organization for Youth and Sports (GOYS) and sponsored by Supreme Council for Youth and Sport Chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee President HH Sheikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
This year’s competition was dominated by Bahrain Polytechnic’s Web Media students, whose core programme includes several audio and video production courses. Dr. Owen Gallagher, who created the film production component for the degree, said he was pleased to see so many Polytechnic students entering the competition and applying their skills in such creative and original ways.
Web Media students receive their first introduction to film production and post production in the second year course, Audio and Video 1, which covers the creative and technical aspects of the craft and instills in students the discipline and team work that are essential in the industry.
“Our students have been absolutely brilliant in coming up with this film. It just goes to show how creative they are, and they deserve to be recognized for their work.” Said Dr. Mohamed Al-Aseeri, Acting CEO of Bahrain Polytechnic. “We are trying to build our students to be work-ready, as per the mission and vision of Bahrain 2030, which aims to improve the standard of education in Bahrain.”
Bahrain Polytechnic would particularly like to congratulate Web Media students Khaled Abdulmajeed, Abdulrahman Abdulla, Mohammed AlZayani and Ali Al Muharraqi for their film “Carousel” which took first prize, as well as Marwa Janahi whose team took second prize. Best actress award went to fourth year Web Media student Dalal Ajlan for her outstanding performance in “Carousel”, a film that explores complex themes of subconscious and virtual reality.
