The camel racing festival took place at Al-Abiadh Field in Mudhaibi and saw the attendance of large number of camel racing fans.
Highlighting the popularity of the event, R. Narasimhan, DGM and Head Retail Banking at Bank Sohar, said, “Bank Sohar is a major supporter of Omani culture, and the camel race at Mudhaibi is among the most important events on our cultural calendar. As evidenced by the participation at the race, the age-old sport of camel racing is well and truly alive today, with young people eager to learn the skills and traditions of camel racing.
“In addition to being a means of travel, camels have been used for competing in festivals and special events. It is good to see the interest events such as these generate among the community,” said Narasimhan. “It was truly satisfying to watch such a large number of people attend the event, which I am sure will continue to attract people for many more generations to come.”
Bank Sohar’s support for the camel race is in-line with its CSR strategy of promoting Oman’s national heritage through activities such as traditional shooting competitions, horse racing, cultural shows, camel racing and more.
As an event, not only is camel racing is one the most important traditional games, but it also promotes the key values of heritage, honour, competitiveness, excitement and speed and celebrates the history and traditions of the region.
Camel racing in Oman takes place every year in various areas of the Sultanate. The race at Mudhaibi was the 4th annual camel race and was held over a three day period.
The event attracted participants from different wilayats in the Sharqiya region and from the villages in the neighbouring regions. Also in attendance were several dignitaries and eminent persons among the audience who came to watch the popular sport. In addition, thousands of spectators also watched the races and the prize distribution that followed. Mr. Saad Al Shidhani, the Sinaw Branch Manager, was also present at the event demonstrating support from Bank Sohar.
The Bank participates in such events to ensure that traditions such as these are kept alive and continue to exist. These events also propel the tourism sector’s growth by further promoting the rich cultural heritage of the county.
