Demonstrating its ongoing support towards charitable causes as part of its corporate social responsibility to nurture and support all sectors of the community, Bank Sohar recently supported the Salalah Chapter of the Al Noor Association for the Blind.
The donation made by the bank will assist the association in the purchase number of Braille Sense assistive technology units. The device is specifically designed to allow blind children to read through a special touch sense system, contributing to their educational and developmental progression.
The donation was handed over to Mr. Awadh Rajab Bait Shruba, Chairman of the Salalah chapter of Al Noor Association, by Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki, DGM Human Resources & Corporate Support at Bank Sohar & in the presence of Mr. Mazin Al Raisi, AGM – Head of Marketing and Publicity of Bank Sohar, at Bank Sohar Branch in Salalah.
Commenting on the Bank’s contribution, Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki, noted, “Bank Sohar, as part of its corporate philosophy and through its various community services programmes, has actively assisted and helped those in need through sponsorships and donations to various charitable organizations in Muscat and various other regions of the Sultanate. With this donation, we have for the first time, extended our support to the Salalah region.”
“We have been working closely with Al Noor Association since 2009, purchasing computers and other equipment that contribute to the development of visually impaired children, as well as sponsoring various workshops and educational programmes organised by the Association. However, this is the first time we are extending our support to the Salalah chapter of Al Noor Association, and we look forward to supporting more like-minded organisations in the area in the near future,” added Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki.
On his part, Mr. Awadh Rajab Bait Shruba, Chairman of the Salalah chapter of Al Noor Association, thanked Bank Sohar and hailed the bank’s constant initiatives that positively contribute to the development of the local community. “Bank Sohar is one of the leading private sector organisations that devotes a lot of energy and resources to give back to the local community. We truly appreciate their continuous support and valuable donation that will facilitate the association’s tasks and will help us provide better services for blind children,” he said.
Al Noor Association for the Blind was founded in 1997 with the aim of improving living standards for blind people in the Sultanate of Oman. The association also represents the interests of the blind community and provides support services in areas of social and vocational development and the teaching of Braille. These services enable members to live as normally as possible in the community. The association, in cooperation with the responsible authorities, also explores employment opportunities for the blind according to their visual condition.
In addition to Al Noor Association of the Blind branch, Bank Sohar has supported a broad range of organizations across the Sultanate in the current year, including Al Noor Association of the Blind- Muscat branch, Dar Al Atta, Oman Road Safety Association, Association of Early Intervention for Children with Disabilities, Creative Centre for Rehabilitation, Oman Association for the Disabled. Bank Sohar’s CSR initiatives have become an integral part of its operational strategy and as a result, it has received several accolades for its CSR efforts over the years, both regionally and internationally. The Bank plans to continue in its steadfast quest of philanthropy with many more donations and charitable events lined up for the current year.
