Continuing to spread cheer among children during the Holy Month of Ramadan, Bank Sohar’s Islamic Window – Sohar Islamic joined hands with Oman Association for the Disabled in organising Qaranqasho celebrations for children recently. The event was organised at the Association’s head office in Qurum, coinciding with the 14th day of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The annual fun-filled event organized by Oman Association for the Disabled and sponsored for the second time by Bank Sohar – this time through its Sohar Islamic Window- was attended by a large number of children along with their families who, in keeping with the festive spirit, were all dressed in traditional Omani outfits.
Commenting on the event, Mr. Mohammad Haris, AGM & Head of Islamic Banking at Sohar Islamic said, “Ramadan is a time of solidarity and generosity and it is our responsibility to teach these values to our children. Qaranqasho provides the perfect avenue to do so while at the same time providing them with an opportunity to get together and enjoy a fun evening with their families and the community.”
The event commenced with a welcome speech followed by a recitation from the Holy Quran. Later the children enjoyed exciting games and entertainment programmes, specially arranged for the event. The special evening also included Islamic songs, competitions for children and adults. A drama show and puppet show also made the evening a memorable one. At the conclusion of the fun-filled evening, Sohar Islamic presented the children with exciting gifts.
“We, at Sohar Islamic, are honoured and glad to have sponsored this event. Organisations such as the Oman Association for the Disabled have been doing their best towards the welfare of those in need. We believe that it is our duty, as a proudly Omani organisation, to do whatever we can to assist them whenever possible, for the betterment of the community and subsequently, the country,” added Mr. Mohammad Haris.
Qaranqasho is a traditional event for children celebrated on the 14th evening of the holy month of Ramadan. All celebrations are aimed at motivating and encouraging children who undertake fasting. This is a time when children visit neighbouring houses singing special songs and receiving sweets. Families prepare to celebrate the occasion with a variety of sweets and savouries to be distributed to the children and also make it an occasion to be remembered.
Oman Association for the Disabled was established in Muscat in 1995 to serve disabled individuals and highlight their true potential to the society. The Association ensures that the rights of such individuals are being upheld in a fair manner and encourages their participation in various activities and sporting events. In addition, the Association works towards building and developing their skills and talents; thereby increasing their work potential and enriching their lives.
