Bayer MaterialScience is a world leader in the polyurethane industry and consequently BaySystems Pearl is at the forefront of polyurethane technology in the Middle East. BCOMS, with its sister company having 30 years of experience in the steel buildings industry with more than 40,000 projects realized worldwide, has already secured a front line position among the construction materials producing companies in the Middle East.
Both companies can call on their global network and expertise and can implement customer requirements quickly and with outstanding flexibility. Constantly developing their products and focusing on customer needs has always been their mission. Their products comply with high industry standards regarding quality and safety.
In line with the Montreal protocols and recent UN recommendations BCOMS and BaySystems Pearl plan to jointly phase out ozone depleting blowing agents from the production of the polyurethane foams. With their plan to totally phase out R141b by the end of 2011 they are well ahead of local regulations. “We are working intensively on new systems that use environmentally friendly blowing agents to produce rigid polyurethane foam. The introduction of third generation blowing agents, like HFC 245fa or 365mfc instead of R141b, constitutes already an advance in environmental terms and is an important step towards zero ODP and very low GWP blowing agents such as pentane.” explains Dr. Marc Schütze, Head of Business Development at BaySystems Pearl.
By introducing bulk supplies of polyol from its blending facility in Dubai and MDI from the first bulk storage tank for MDI in the Gulf region, BaySystems Pearl provides short lead-times and reliable, local supply while at the same time eliminating the use of drums for the benefit of reduced handling costs as well as waste material left inside the drums.
Given the pressing need to cut energy consumption, measures aimed at efficient heat insulation are becoming increasingly important. This applies equally in the Middle East, where the challenge is to protect commercial buildings against the blistering heat of the summer. BaySystems Pearl has built up several years of wide-ranging experience in customized system solutions based on rigid polyurethane foam. This material has the best thermal insulating properties of any product currently available on the market, and is used by BCOMS to produces pre-insulated sandwich panels. Thermal insulation based on rigid polyurethane foam is also a core element of the EcoCommercial Building Program run by Bayer MaterialScience. The EcoCommercial Building Program is a network of experts providing solutions for the energy-efficient, environmentally friendly and cost-effective construction of commercial and public buildings. Accordingly, BCOMS has also become a qualified network member of the Middle East program.
“Through our cooperation with Bayer MaterialScience and its EcoCommercial Building program, we aim to continue our success story for sustainable construction matierials,” states Nasri Majzoub, General Manager of BCOMS. “The program offers decision makers in the construction industry access to leading experts – like BCOMS – with state-of-the-art solutions which are custom-tailored across the entire range of applications from analysis and planning to energy efficient materials and building technologies,” says Dr. Thomas Braig, Head of the EcoCommercial Building program in the Europe, Middle East, Africa Region. “With our solutions the cost-effectiveness and sustainability of buildings will be improved – benefiting the building owner, its tenant and the environment,” Braig adds.
