64% of UAE employers look to hire up to 10 employees in the coming 3 months, according to Bayt.com and YouGov survey

The latest Bayt.com Middle East and North Africa Job Index Survey, conducted by Bayt.com, the Middle East’s number one job site, and YouGov, a research and consulting organisation, reveals that 44% of companies in the UAE are definitely hiring in the coming 3 months. 64% of these will be looking to hire up to up to 10 people, mostly for junior executive positions.

Hiring Expectations
In addition to 44% of companies in the UAE definitely hiring in the next 3 months, 23% claim they will probably be hiring within the same time period. In a year’s time, 74% claim they will either ‘definitely’ or ‘probably’ be hiring. 21% of companies will look to fill up to between 6-10 positions, most of which (36%) will be for junior executive roles. More specifically, in the next 3 months UAE companies will seek sales managers (19%), customer service representatives (15%), human resources professionals (14%), project managers (14%), and executive assistants (14%).

Across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), 62% of companies are definitely or probably hiring in the next 3 months. Private multinationals are most likely to hire, with 41% claiming to be ‘definitely’ hiring in the next 3 months.

Candidate Qualifications and Skills
The most sought-after qualification amongst candidates in the MENA region is business management at graduate or post-graduate level. In the UAE, the most desirable qualification is one in engineering (31%), followed by business management (29%), and commerce (21%). Employers in the UAE are looking for candidates who have good communication skills in Arabic and English (60%), who are team players (50%), have good leadership skills (45%), and good negotiation skills (45%).

In terms of experience, employers in the UAE like candidates who have the ability to manage a team (40%), who have worked in sales and marketing (37%), or in administration (30%).

Recent Hires and Job Attractiveness
66% of UAE companies have hired new employees in the last 6 months, compared to 63% around the MENA region who have done so. According to 71% of UAE respondents, the UAE is more attractive as a job market than any other country in the region. 54% in the UAE also consider their current industry to be more attractive as a potential employer than any other business.

UAE respondents believe that the most attractive industries in the country, those that are retaining the top talent, are construction (39%) and banking and finance (39%), followed by oil, gas and petrochemicals (35%).

The trend continues from past waves with most employers planning to hire people for junior or middle-level executive positions. Data for the Bayt.com Middle East and North Africa Job Index Survey, July 2014, was collected online from June 10-July 31 2014. Results are reported on a base of 2,279 respondents, of which 2,001 were of working status. Countries that participated are the UAE, KSA, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Egypt, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia.
