Dr El-Konayyesi shared with students his expertise and his experience in journalism and took them, step-by-step, through the process of creating a short video package. The promise to feature the best work from The World as You See It sessions on the BBC added to the Emirates students’ determination to make the most of the workshops.
Dr El-Konayyesi is a senior member of the launch team for the BBC’s integrated multimedia offer in Arabic incorporating radio, TV and online. He conducted The World as You See It as part of the BBC’s ongoing programme to engage with young people from the Arab world. He described the workshops as an exciting and invigorating experience:
“It was great to meet future media professionals from the UAE. The students at United Arab Emirates University and Sharjah University showed a lot of eagerness, talent and ambition. They were really interested in my experience and asked many questions about international broadcasting. They were especially interested in the BBC’s open approach, which encourages them to contribute stories to the BBC Arabic multimedia offer including TV, radio and online.”
Visitors to the BBC Arabic award-winning website, bbcarabic.com, can access many of the students’ contributions in the months ahead. Meanwhile the next stop for The World as You See It is King Abdul Aziz University, Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
