March 29 once again served as a reminder to people across the world that just a little effort can go a long way in conservation of environment. People from all walks of life as well as corporate organisations came up with innovative ideas to celebrate Earth Hour from 8:30 – 9:30pm when the lights were switched off.
For the first time Berger Paints participated in the event by tying up with the Environment Society of Oman. The company set up a huge canvas at The Wave Muscat for the children to paint on with glow in the dark fluorescent colours. From the participants, one winner would be selected for a complete room makeover. The prize winner would be able to choose from 20 diverse themes for the walls or ceiling that have specially been created to appeal to children from age group of 4 – 14 years. Ranging from bedtime stories to the deep sea and the Jurassic era to the wild west, each theme is designed to fuel the imagination of children. Similar themes such as talking birds and bird time stories can also be clubbed to create new inspiring backdrops. With such exciting options, getting the children to bed would be easy; but getting them to sleep would be another story!
While Berger Paints offers an array of decorative options and themes, it has been equally conscious of its commitment to environment conservation. Great thought and care has gone in creating the children’s range that is water based and free of heavy metals. In fact, the complete decorative range, is lead free with low Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) formula that prevents air pollution. The Royalle Crystalle range has been especially formulated to resist bacteria and fungus and is odour free that helps prevent infections while offering maximum colour protection.
“Confident of its proactive policy towards environment, Berger Paints took the Earth Hour as an opportunity to reiterate its commitment to use of renewable and sustainable materials in its formulations. The Berger Paints factory at Ghala also suspended operations during the latter half of the day on 29th March to show solidarity and support the cause,” stated P.K. Raj, General Manager. This would approximately amount to a saving of 2600 KWH of electricity.
Commending the efforts of Berger Paints and its participation during the Earth Hour, Lamees Abdullah Daar, Executive Director, ESO, added, “We were pleasantly surprised to find a paint company stepping up as we associate paint with hazardous industries. Their eco-friendly portfolio and ideas for kid’s made this a meaningful event.”
