Highlighting its commitment to growth, innovation and sustainability, Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, showcased its wide range of polyolefin solutions for sustainable infrastructure applications including reliable pipeline systems and durable wires and cables at the 16th Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) 2014 held under the theme ‘At the Forefront of Sustainability’ at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre on 14-16 April 2014.

Organised under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), WETEX 2014 becomes a significant venue for the world’s leading players in the water, energy and environment technology industries through which Borouge demonstrated its portfolio of differentiated range of polyethylene (PE) and polypropylene (PP) innovative solutions that contribute to enhancing sustainable infrastructural development, addressing global challenges and ensuring an improved environmental footprint.

“WETEX 2014 is an ideal platform for Borouge to highlight our continuous commitment to sustainability by demonstrating our innovative plastics solutions that ensure the durability and reliability of various modern infrastructure applications including pipelines and power and communication wires and cables,” said Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Senior Vice President Middle East Africa (MEAE). “Through our participation, we reinforce our leading role as a long-term reliable partner to our customers in the region and ensure our commitment to keep providing the local, regional and global markets with sustainable solutions that are known for its processing characteristics, lower maintenance, lower installation costs, longer product lifetimes and increased safety and durability,” he added.

Borouge’s stand displayed samples of applications that are made of its polyolefin solutions such as BorSafe and BorECO which are used to make durable plastic pipes that ensure providing safe water and sanitation, as well as Borstar Aquility for tailor-made solutions for durable drip irrigation systems. With these unique and innovative solutions Borouge is well recognised as a leading player in the pipe market. Furthermore, Borouge pipe team works closely with customers and other key value chain members to pioneer new and demanding applications for polyolefin pipes.

“WETEX also provides us with an opportunity to highlight the successful projects we participated in different parts of the world through the Water for the World programme,” explained Al Suwaidi. “Initiated in 2007 together with Borealis, the programme helped some 300,000 people around the world have access to safe drinking water and sanitation,” he added.

On the other hand, Borouge together with Borealis enjoy a good reputation as leading providers of innovative sustainable solutions for the global wire and cable industry. In addition to showcasing its latest innovations for advanced insulation, semi-conductive and jacketing materials for cables at WETEX 2014, Borouge highlighted its high productivity solutions that enable cable makers to manufacture quality cables according to the highest industry standards. Borouge and Borealis offer advanced solutions for energy and communication cables through their global brands such as Borlink, Visico/Ambicat, Borstar and Casico.

Committing to meet the increasing demand for cross-linkable polyethylene (XLPE), both companies focus on providing Borlink XLPE solutions for extra high, high and medium voltage power cables. In line with its future investment, Borouge will be producing 350,000 tonnes of low density polyethylene (LDPE) per year at its new plant built in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, as part of the Borouge 3 expansion project due to be operational in 2014. This investment spearheads Borouge’s ability to manufacture innovative XLPE solutions for the global wire and cable market.

The WETEX exhibition attracts key players in the pipe and wire and cable industries including manufacturers, suppliers, energy experts, investors and engineers to exchange views and share experiences and introduce the latest innovations and technologies in the energy, water, technology and environment sectors.

Borouge was established in 1998 as a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Austria based Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and innovative plastics solutions. It is a groundbreaking international partnership at the forefront of the next generation of plastics innovation.
