Twelve students have benefitted from the scholarship programme that will be effective from the commencement of the first term on 13 September, 2011. Set to become an annual incentive for deserving students, the programme aims to provide additional scholarships for sport, music, drama and dance during the following academic year.
Selection for all three categories was made following day-long assessments and interviews. Students from the age of 11 years were eligible to apply. The scholarship for all-round performance, known as the ‘Bloom All-Rounder Scholarship’, is awarded to students that demonstrate the potential to grow as leaders and set a performance benchmark for their peers.
Brendan Law, Headmaster, Brighton College Abu Dhabi, said: “We are pleased to offer the scholarship programme to our pupils right from the onset of our operation in Abu Dhabi. This is a unique proposal by Brighton College Abu Dhabi and new to school students in the city. We have adopted this initiative as part of our overarching aim to develop our students in mind, body and spirit. Our ethos is to support the children as individuals and encourage them to reach their full potential. Aiming for excellence in all areas of school life, we offer an extensive curriculum both in and outside of the classroom.”
Brighton College Abu Dhabi has set a high admissions benchmark to ensure it fulfils its mission of developing top individuals through quality education. The school follows a selective entry process that involves meeting with families, as well as in-depth interviews and pupil assessments in reasoning ability. Admissions for the 2011-2012 academic year are still open to some year groups from Pre-Reception (age three) to Year 9 (age 13).
Law added, “Due to unprecedented demand, we are opening more classes and hiring additional teachers without compromising on the quality of education and the community. What sets us apart is the fact that we will encourage our students to achieve academic and all-round excellence, whilst concentrating on their personal development. Our approach will help broaden their horizons and cultivate independence, self-assurance and confidence.”
Charlotte, Year 8 Art Scholar, said, “I am very proud to be a part of the scholarship programme and excited about my upcoming academic year at the school. I am thankful for being given this incredible opportunity.”
Oscar, Year 8 Academic Scholar, said, “I am extremely happy to be among the first batch of children in Brighton College and look forward to all the opportunities the school will offer. I am also very proud to have been awarded an Academic Scholarship and hope to represent the school well.”
Brighton College’s campus at Bloom Gardens will offer world-class education in the British curriculum. The school sets itself apart by offering specialist subject teaching from Year 5 as part of its curriculum. The approach will specifically prepare pupils for key stages in their academic life such as the Common Entrance Examinations for admission to the top UK independent schools such as Brighton College UK and Eton, as well as admissions to the top UK universities. In addition to offering Mandarin language classes, BCAD will include a creative blend of Arabic and Islamic Studies in compliance with the Abu Dhabi Education Council regulations.
