Thrills and excitement top lineup at FIFA World Cup Fan Park in Dubai

United Arab Emirates: Thursday, May 25 - 2006 @ 11:53

The FIFA World Cup™ Fan Park gives spectators a true stadium experience with a giant 140m2 screen, grandstand seating, stadium food and football-themed games and activities for the whole family.

Each of the 64 matches will be broadcast live at the venue, which occupies much of Sheikh Rashid Hall at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The Fan Park will reverberate with cheers and chanting from up to 3,000 people, including 1,500 in stadium seats, 500 in the VIP balcony and 1,000 on the indoor football pitch that will double as a seating area during matches.

The innovative viewing location was created by FIFA World Cup™ official partners adidas, Coca-Cola, Gillette, MasterCard, Yahoo!, Hyundai and ART, the official broadcaster of the FIFA World Cup™ in the Middle East and North Africa.

The Fan Park is a must-visit sporting destination, particularly because it is the first time sponsors have joined together to offer consumers such a stadium experience.

Mr. Bashar Abdulakrim – General Manager Relay Dubai, FIFA World Cup Fan Park organisers in Dubai, said,

“The sponsors wanted to offer an experience of a lifetime to FIFA World Cup™ fans living or visiting Dubai. By pooling their diverse resources, they have created a venue that is like no other by conveying true stadium excitement for football fanatics and families alike.”

“What’s so exciting is that the Fan Park is not just a place to watch the tournament, though with the largest screen of its kind in the Middle East, viewing the matches will be spectacular, it also is a fun summer destination that offers games and activities for children and adults that aren’t available anywhere else,” added Mr. Abdulakrim.

The Fan Park will open two hours before each day’s matches begin and close about an hour after the last match ends. First round matches will start at 5pm, 8pm and 11pm, Dubai local time, with the tournament running between June 9 and July 9.

Visitors will be able to participate in several entertaining games for groups and individuals.

One of the true highlights will be the Sponsors’ Village, an enjoyable area where each sponsor will be operating a stand with its products and services on offer, alongside a variety of individual activities and games, such as face painting and video greetings, and numerous prizes and giveaways.

Fans who are confident about how each of the 32 teams will fare would be well advised to show up early at the Fan Park on opening day. The first 100 visitors will be eligible to play the Tipping the Winners game, which asks them to pick the winner of each match, from the first round through the final match. Following the group round, they will be able to revise their picks one time in light of results. The top tipsters will go in the draw for a major prize, which is yet to be announced.

The food and beverages available will reinforce the stadium feel, with hotdogs, hamburgers, chips, nachos, soda and similar fare featuring prominently on the menu.
