XFit by Fitness First to host ‘Give Me 3000’ challenge

United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, June 26 - 2013 @ 12:03

The event will take centerstage on 29 June from 9:00am onwards at the XFit Studio in Fitness First’s club at Dubai Knowledge Village.

Through the initiative, Fitness First aims to raise awareness on the importance of physical activity in the prevention and management of obesity and diabetes.

The significance of the event is reflected in a 2012 report from the World Health Organization, which states that diabetes affects nearly 19% of the resident population in the UAE while over 20% are overweight or obese. The report also indicates that women are more affected by the condition than men.

Grant Goes is the founder of FitnessLink, a locally-grown platform that is dedicated to motivating the Middle East region to adopt and sustain a healthy and balanced routine despite the overwhelming demands of modern lifestyles.

Grant Goes, said, “Change is not easy, no matter what your fitness level. It takes effort and there are several challenges that people might face in order to be successful. I am in the same position as everyone else is, where it is unsure and uncomfortable, and I must overcome the same mental and physical barriers as someone just starting out in fitness.”

He added, “There are so many benefits to being active and we all face our own individual battles. I want to lead the way and put my money where my mouth is, so as to speak – work with members of the community within this industry and push the important message that activity can prevent life-altering health conditions. I look forward to driving Fitness First’s goal to help educate the community on leading a healthier and active lifestyle. XFit is the ideal location to hold this event for its vast range of equipment that is required for such a challenge.”

Running alongside the five-hour session, Give ME 3000 will host a series of physical competitions for the public. Enthusiasts can either join Grant in completing some of the workout routines or take on any of the other contests as an individual or as part of a team. Adidas, the official outfitter of the event, will give away spot prizes to participants of these competitions.

George Flooks, Chief Operating Officer for Middle East and North Africa, Fitness First, said, “We are proud to support Grant in this initiative that will significantly contribute to raising awareness on the prevention of obesity and diabetes in the region. The event also fits in well with Fitness First’s vision of making the world a fitter place. We look forward to hosting more such events in the future.”

Fitness First’s innovative new offering, XFit, includes typically short and intense routines, combining movements such as sprinting, rowing, jumping ropes, weightlifting, carrying heavy objects, and a mix of bodyweight exercises.

In support of the initiative, the Give ME 3000 challenge is set to be held in other territories including Qatar and Kuwait on the same day to complement Fitness First’s efforts to raise awareness on healthy living throughout the region.
