Flowcrete has been established in the Middle East for the last seven years and has provided its performance flooring to some of the largest and most high profile projects in the UAE. The company’s presence at the show will be led by a team from its Flowcrete Middle East office which acts a regional headquarters for the firm’s operations in the Gulf.
At Dubai International Airport, Flowcrete is involved in the mammoth Terminal 3 Project where over 330,000sqm of its decking system known as Deckshield has been installed at the Concourse Level, Baggage Reclaim Areas, internal terminal roadways and at all five levels of the multi-storey car park. The polyurethane-based Deckshield provides a seamless, hard-wearing, abrasion resistant surface well able to withstand the high levels of pedestrian and vehicular traffic likely to be experienced at the Terminal with the predicted increase in passenger numbers to 60 million per annum by 2010. The high quality, seamless finish is also entirely in keeping with the first-class finishes of the new facility.
Some 130,000sqm of a second Flowcrete system, K-Screed, was installed to provide a highly durable (compressive strength in excess of 50 Mpa), quick-drying, impact resistant substrate for the Deckshield.
Flowcrete Middle East Commercial Director Andrew Gwyther says,
“At the end of 2006, we completed a Deckshield installation at the multi-storey Gate 13 Car Park, including the exposed top deck. The success of this project was key factor in helping us to the win the Terminal 3 work.” Pegasus Llc, Flowcrete’s licensed contractor in the Middle East, carried out installation of the systems in all cases.”
In a related sector, the eight private aircraft hangars and workshops of the Dubai Royal Airwing were given the royal treatment with 55,000sqm of Flowcrete’s Flowcoat SK (UV Stable) flooring. Flowcoat was chosen against stiff local and international competition, being the only system able to meet the very high specifications for chemical and UV resistance. The system stood up to 7-day immersion tests using 10 different types of chemicals and specialist fuels, with no signs of erosion, discolouration or wear.
According to Gwyther, designers and architects looking to transform public spaces at airports into contemporary chic environments will love Mondeco, a seamless epoxy resin terrazzo also from Flowcrete. “Mondeco is a highly versatile system, giving designers and architects extensive flexibility to let their creativity run free. At the same time, its hard-wearing properties and long-lasting good looks keep developers and owners happy,” says Gwyther. “The ability to implement designs in different colourways and to lock eye-catching coloured glass, marble and mother of pearl into the resin are added attractions.”
In one example, over 15,000sqm of Mondeco was installed at the Concourse area of Dublin International Airport and 1,000sqm at the Glasgow Airport Baggage Reclaim Area. Closer to home, the system has been installed at the brand new Times Square Mall on Sheik Zayed Road in Dubai, where nine contrasting colours come together to create a striking flower design in the floor.
Visitors to the Airport Show will be able to see and feel the Mondeco system up close by calling in at the Flowcrete stand.
