The website created by the French Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries aims at detailing the major principles of food safety management and the French plans for the food safety surveillance. Not only exporters and importers are concerned, but also consumers association and press. Each of the stages is monitored: production, processing, storage, transport, distribution, import, export.
It is the sustained will and collective effort of the French authorities, professionals and consumers associations which guarantees assurance about the quality and safety of French products consumed within the national territory or those exported. The State ensures a large monitoring mission across the different services of the three ministries concerned with agriculture, health and consumption and puts the French expertise forward.
“The launch of this website shows how it is important for France to communicate on the high level of food safety the private sector has reached, under the supervision of the relevant French Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries’ services,’ said Charles Martins-Ferreira, Head of Veterinary Service for Middle East, French Embassy.
The website is available in 13 languages and a comprehensive guidebook can be downloaded, clearly explaining the French food safety procedures.
France, the third largest world exporter of agricultural products and processed foodstuffs, is running a very voluntary health policy in respect of food processing and therefore is completely in line with the involvement of the GCC countries, especially the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Through different lectures and seminars the local authorities are indeed increasing public awareness of the consumer protection. Food safety can now be considered a burning issue in the Middle East.
