Sheikha Manal extends her patronage to Ralph Lauren Charity Auction in support of Friends of Cancer Patients Society

United Arab Emirates: Sunday, October 23 - 2011 @ 10:25

The auction took place at the exclusive Ralph Lauren store in Burjuman on 19 October.

The FOCP’s Pink Caravan Initiative works in accordance with the directives and under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed AI-Qasimi, President of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Federal Supreme Council Member His Royal Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi.

Representing HH Sheikha Manal at the auction and cocktail event were Ms. Mona Al Marri, Chairperson of the Board of Dubai Women Establishment, and Ms. Muna Bin Kalli, Executive Director of Dubai Ladies Club.

A limited edition “Swarovski Ricky Bag” – which was especially designed for, and is exclusively available in Ralph Lauren Dubai – was auctioned on the night, with 100% of the proceeds donated to the FOCP.

The bag, a rendition of Ralph Lauren’s signature Ricky Bag is one of only six pieces created with a proprietor plaque no. 1 engraved with “Dubai” instead of “New York”, thus connecting with the Middle-Eastern culture and style.

In addition to the proceeds from the auction, 10% of all Ralph Lauren Pink Pony products sold during 2011 will be donated to FOCP. Pink Pony is the Ralph Lauren Corporation’s worldwide initiative in the fight against cancer, which aims to reduce disparities in cancer care in medically underserved communities.

On this occasion, Ms. Mona Al Marri, Chairperson of the Board of Dubai Women Establishment said, “Her Highness Sheikha Manal bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has always attached great importance to women’s causes and has consistently sponsored female-focused healthcare endeavours in the UAE. This project is in line with the vision of Her Highness and her keenness to promote the topic of breast cancer prevention by empowering and educating women about the disease and build the knowledge, tools and resources needed to lead the fight against breast cancer in their own communities.”

Said Ameera Binkaram, President and Founding Member of Friends of Cancer Patients: “I feel an extreme sense of honour for receiving Her Highness Sheikha Manal’s patronage towards our cause, and I applaud Ralph Lauren not only for this fantastic opportunity, but also for their continuous efforts in the fight against breast cancer. While this auction provided a fun way to raise funds, it had the additional benefit of raising widespread awareness about our Pink Caravan initiative. We are truly humbled by their generous support and encouragement.”

The event was attended by Sheikha Maitha Bint Hasher Al Maktoum, Mrs. Ingie Chalhoub, Mrs. Mariam Easa Al Gurg, Ms. Hind Beljafla, Ms. Sama Abdurahim BinKaram, Mrs. Maha Mohammed Bin Hader wife of HE Majid Abdullah Joma AL Sari, as well as a number of other well known personalities from Sharjah and Dubai.

The Pink Caravan is an initiative launched by the Friends of Cancer Patients, during 2011, to commemorate the occasion of their 10th anniversary celebrations. Through this noble initiative, they are strongly campaigning towards bringing together an awareness of breast cancer in the country. The Pink Caravan campaign is specifically designed to raise awareness of breast cancer and to encourage women to perform self-examinations and go for regular medical checkups. The campaign will run annually until 2014, focusing on all areas across the UAE, including remote and outlying areas, as well as city suburbs. The funds raised during this awareness campaign will ensure the availability of the latest technology in the early screening and detection of breast cancer, making it accessible to all women in the UAE.
