The Hyundai Tucson has been the best-selling SUV from Hyundai in the region in recent years. This comes as no surprise given the region’s love for SUVs and the practicality of the Tucson when compared to other cars in its price range. Its ‘Fluidic sculpture’ design also makes it one of the most attractive SUVs in its segment for Middle Eastern families with an active lifestyle.
The new 2014 Tucson still holds on to all the features which made it such a hit in the region, with added practicality, safety and family-friendly features. The reclining rear seats add an extra element of convenience, allowing for a multitude of seat arrangements for additional room when needed. The depowered airbags on the driver and passenger side deploy at reduced force to prevent possible injury while side and curtain airbags are installed all around to protect occupants from injuries.
The Theta-II 2.0 MPI engine in the previous model has been replaced with a new Nu 2.0 MPI engine producing 158ps/6,200rpm and peak torque of 19.6kg-m/4,000rpm, making it more fuel efficient than the previous unit. The five-speed manual transmission has also been upgraded to a six-speed gearbox, which is reflected in the automatic version as well. The Tucson is available in 2.4L GL or 2.4L GLS versions.
Buyers of the new 2014 Tucson now benefits from Hyundai’s Flex Steer system, available on the model for the first time. Three driving modes – normal, comfort and sport – allow the driver to vary the level of steering support and feedback to best suit the environment. Other additions include a bi-function projection type headlight and LED positioning lamps for improved visibility along with LED rear lamps. The newly designed alloy wheels come in a choice of 17 or 18-inch sizes.
The Tucson’s interior has also benefited from a number of enhancements. The upholstery has been given a higher quality material on the front and rear doors while the passenger side crash pad has been upgraded as well. The leather seat covers now have a new pattern design, available in a new premium brown colour, while the chrome decorated cluster comes with the option of a 42-inch colour TFT LCD.
Vice President and Head of Hyundai Middle East Head Quarters, Tom Lee comments: “The Tucson has a proven record as our best-selling SUV in the Middle East. For this reason we believe the new 2014 model, with the enhancement package, will be even more appealing to our customers here. Benefiting from our ‘Fluidic Sculpture’ design language, the Tucson is not only full of all the amenities a family would expect in a mid-sized SUV, it also looks fantastic.”
The 2014 Hyundai Tucson comes and will be rolled out across regional showrooms in September, with sales beginning in October 2013.
The Tucson was launched at the opening of the new Hyundai Training Academy in Dubai. The Academy will serve as the training ground for all Hyundai staff around the Middle East and Africa to ensure top quality service to customers in the region.
