Supreme Council for Information and Communication Technology launches identity “ictQATAR”

At the launch, the Chairman, His Highness the Heir Apparent of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, introduced the identity of SCICT as ictQATAR and shared ictQATAR’s vision, mission and objectives with an audience that included His Excellency the Prime Minister, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani and ictQATAR’s Vice Chairman, His Excellency the Minister of Finance of Qatar, Yousef Hussain Kamal.

The event was attended by ministers, diplomats, government and education officials, telecoms and IT professionals and VIP members from the private sector.

“With the launch of ictQATAR, we have witnessed another achievement accomplished during the reign of His Highness the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani, which aims to place Qatar among one of the most developed and progressive nations, where the benefits are enjoyed by all, “ said the Chairman of ictQATAR, His Highness the Heir Apparent of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.

“ictQATAR’s objective is to create an advanced information-based society that will improve the quality of life of everyone in Qatar and will enhance the social and economic development of the country, “ concluded the Chairman of ictQATAR, His Highness the Heir Apparent of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani.

The launch event was jointly hosted by ictQATAR Secretary General, Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber who said that ictQATAR’s vision was to connect possibilities, enrich knowledge and inspire progress.

“ictQATAR’s mission is to create an advanced knowledge society through ICT infrastructure and skills development, the delivery of e-services and the establishment of a regulatory environment that promotes growth and benefits citizens, businesses and the government,“ said Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber, Secretary General of IctQATAR.

Dr. Al-Jaber continued on to say , “ictQATAR’s priority programs include “Broadband for All” which aims to provide broadband access to the community at large, with high bandwidth and competitive tariffs, and leveraging Wireline and wireless technologies.

ictQATAR is also seeking to execute the “Most Connected Nation” initiative to provide telecommunications accessibility to all members of society, using the most advanced technologies to connect and deliver services.”

ictQATAR will increase ICT literacy by developing ICT specialization programs in coordination with leading educational bodies in the country. Other programs will focus on the development of e-health, e-government, e-finance and e-tourism services in coordination with their respective authorities.

“Using ICT to maintain the health and promote the well-being and advancement of our citizens and residents is not only Qatar’s mission but our mission too. We will support in developing Qatar’s health care services to implement electronic health cards and a nation-wide healthcare network and also support the establishment of Knowledge Communities, with the help and coordination of all stakeholders, “ continued Dr. Hessa Al-Jaber.

ictQATAR has launched its official website. The website includes information about ictQATAR’s programs, policies and regulations and links to news events and careers at ictQATAR.
