Singapore – Your Infocomm Partner in Asia
With Singapore renowned for its speed of adoption and robust technology infrastructure, many of the country’s ICT companies have demonstrated their expertise in vertical sectors such as e-government, healthcare, logistics and financial services both domestically and internationally. With the Middle East rapidly entering the global IT arena, there are now significant opportunities for Singaporean ICT companies to share knowledge and share best practices.
“As market liberalisation becomes increasingly common across the Middle East, strategic partnerships are the obvious next step for the region’s economies to compete effectively in the international marketplace,” says Wu Choy Peng, Deputy Chief Executive (Industry) & Government Chief Information Officer, IDA Singapore, “Singapore’s ICT industry is a key engine of growth and ranked among the top in the world, so there is a depth of knowledge and experience which we can share with our partners in the Middle East who are interested in developing their ICT industries for greater socio-economic benefits.”
Singapore is keen to share our experience with our partners in Middle East, in particular, e-Government development. As part of the year-long technical support agreement with Jordan, the two countries have exchanged know how on the planning and delivery of e-government systems. Similar pact has also been signed with Kuwait to assist the country in developing an e-government strategy, as well as to formulate a technology master plan for its public sector agencies. Singaporean firm National Computer Systems Pte Ltd has also recently won the project for the design and provision of Intelligent Building Solutions for Bahrain’s first World Trade Centre. Clearly, the foundations have been laid for mutually beneficial business relationships between Singapore and some of the region’s fastest growing economies.
“There are obvious synergies between the developing ICT environments in the Middle East and Singapore,” continues Choy Peng. “Industry collaboration between these countries can extend beyond just knowledge exchange and transfer. We believe there is considerable potential to maximise complementary strengths and reinforce strong and enduring partnerships.”
At GITEX 2005, global buyers can expect to meet outstanding consumer infocomms companies at the Singapore Pavilion.
”The Arab Middle East and North Africa (MENA) represents one of the world’s fastest growing hardware, communications and networking equipment markets. Our Singapore consumer infocomms companies offer niche, well-designed, innovative and top quality products to meet this rising market demand,” says Mr Andrew Khaw, Acting Director of Corporate Group (Electronics and Precision Engineering), IE Singapore. “Presently, our Singapore companies have already established some brand awareness in the MENA market. Through participation in GITEX 2005, they can enhance their brand visibility and also utilise this platform to launch their latest products and services. Most importantly, they can meet potential business partners and strengthen their foothold in this market.”
Singapore has seen tremendous growth over 30 years of industrialisation, first serving the needs of leading electronics multi-national corporations (MNCs) operating in the country and now, a customer base that spans the globe. With increased demands and requirements for consumer infocomms products that are of better quality and design, our companies are now equipped with world-class capabilities in manufacturing, engineering, technology, total supply chain solutions, as well as innovative product design and R&D.
At GITEX this year, a full range of consumer infocomms products and innovations will be on display – portable media players from Tronic International, digital audio players from Astone Holdings Pty Ltd, network security products/services from Digisafe Pte Ltd, MP3 players from Sooner Technology and more.
