This is the fifth year that IDA has led a contingent to participate in the show. This year, the agency will focus on showcasing Singapore’s infocomm capabilities which have played a pivotal role in enhancing the country’s economic competitiveness.
“We have a vibrant infocomm industry in Singapore that has accumulated a wealth of experience in the development and implementation of a wide range of ICT projects in various government and economic sectors,”
said RADM(NS) Ronnie Tay, CEO of IDA.
“Through their participation in Gitex, Infocomm Singapore companies can share their many innovations and capabilities with partners in the Middle East region.”
IDA has been active in the Middle East as early as 2005 and set up its first point of presence in the region in 2007. To date, IDA has signed MOUs with Kuwait, Oman and Qatar for ICT collaboration in sectors such as e-Government, education and healthcare, trade & logistics and telecommunications, and it enjoys strong working relationships with government organisations in the GCC states.
In addition to encouraging and facilitating exchanges between Singapore and the Middle East in the area of ICT, IDA also pro-actively identifies opportunities to help Singapore infocomm companies expand their engagements in the region.
Mr Shaik Umar, Centre Director for IDA’s Middle East Office said: “The Middle East continues to experience growth in infocomm-based technologies as governments in the region actively invest in infrastructure for the future to support growing populations, economic growth and diversification plans, towards the building of a knowledge-based economy and society. With sound technological know-how and successful sector-wide infocomm implementations, Singapore infocomm companies are well-positioned to contribute to ICT developments in the Middle East.”
The Infocomm Singapore Pavilion will showcase award-winning e-Government solutions such as the Online Business Licensing System. IDA will also host an Infocomm Singapore networking reception on 19 October at the Pavilion for its partners in the Middle East.
