With a population approaching 30 million people and substantial oil resources, Iraq is one of the World’s great untapped markets. Sadly it has been more or less off-limits to outside businesses for almost 20 years. But now, with security improving, IMES believes that the time is right to take a close look at the opportunities the country offers.
The studies will be based on extensive fieldwork both in the key supplying countries which neighbour Iraq and within Iraq itself.
IMES Managing Director David Edwards commented that:
“We are very pleased to have reached agreement with one of Iraq’s leading business families, active in both food and beverage manufacturing and importing, to provide us with support within the country, facilitating access and insights that might otherwise be impossible.”
In addition to providing basic market data on product sector size, structure and dynamics, the studies will also address issues such as security, availability of materials, distribution, route to market, obtaining payment and the role of branding. The expected date for publication is at the end of April 2009.
