The first IMES Beverage Conference in January 2008 was widely praised by participants for its strong content and excellent value despite being plagued by a double-whammy of an unexpected National Holiday marking President Bush’s visit and the wettest January day on record! Many of those who attended in 2008 have already signed up for 2009.
At more than 15 billion litres, with a total value exceeding $8bn and with sustained annual growth of 6%, the beverage market in the Arab world rightly attracts a great deal of attention.
But even this market is not immune from the ravages of the global economic crisis.
So this year’s conference will focus both on defensive strategies in a downturn and on seeking out lucrative new opportunities in areas of growth potential.
A strong roster of speakers both from within and outside the Middle East region will contribute their thoughts while lively and passionate debate from the floor is a key feature of the IMES approach.
Thorsten Hartmann, who heads the IMES Consulting beverage practice, is clearly excited:
“Our success last year demonstrated the need for a conference based around practical, hard-hitting, profit-oriented ideas rather than self-congratulatory gala dinners. As an integral part of the Middle East beverage industry for almost 30 years, IMES is keen to help drive the industry’s success.”
