With major hi-tech achievements coming out of Dubai, the print media industry has pioneered another first in the Middle-East, a publication where photographs, news articles and illustrations are seen in holographic like 3 Dimension.
Young Times is an edutainment weekly publication of the Khaleej Times English news daily, targeted mainly at young readers.
In this collaboration with Immersive Media, the publication dated 14th Sept 2004 will be printed with 3D ink and include a 3D viewer on the cover.
3Dimensional print is a continually evolving technology and is currently the trade secret of only a few print houses. With digital print technology coming off age, 3D print is set to soon make its way into mainstream news-papers and even outdoor media with ‘Lenticular’ billboards.
The editorial department of the magazine says, “This is the first time that a 3-D magazine is being published in the region. For all you know, all newspapers, magazines and television programmes might be in 3-D soon. This is first edition is destined to be a keepsake”
The 3D edition of Young Times will feature another first; “holographic advertising”.
Select adverts in the publication will have their products “float” off the pages of the magazine when viewed with the 3D viewer.
This allows for advertisers to benefit from this new form of brand message delivery with sustained “eye-ball” time being spent viewing an advertisement.
