Imtac, HP’s partner for the Procurve Networking business will be executing the project. Established on January 1 1990, Bank Dhofar is an Omani commercial bank wholly owned and managed by Omanis. With successive years of constantly setting new standards in banking, BD has attained an impressively expanding network of 47 operational branches and 67 ATMs.
Through an international network linked by advanced technology, Bank Dhofar provides a comprehensive range of financial services that encompass personal financial services; commercial banking; corporate, investment banking and markets; private banking; and other activities.
Imtac had implemented the current network and it had grown organically. Due to significant growth in business, related application traffic and advanced user requirements the Bank had felt the need to replace their network to ‘state-of-art’ Gigabit backbone. The key considerations have been to enhance redundancy, security and manageability.
The network solution designed by Imtac and endorsed by HP features a modular (Core and Edge) design approach to accommodate future expansion. With the philosophy of “Command from the center, with control to the edge.” at the center of the network is the HP Procurve Routing Switch 9308m with redundant Gigabit uplinks to the Edge Switches 5308xl.HP Procurve 5308xl as the edge switches are designed to accommodate the most demanding network needs, the HP Procurve Switch 5308xl delivers fast layer 2/3/4 switching at competitive pricing. These convergence-ready switches provide flexibility, high port density, free software upgrades, and a lifetime warranty.
Providing brief on the project Mr. Ravi Khanna, Head of IT said, “Our Data network is the nerve center of the Bank’s operations. We have carefully evaluated all the technologies currently available and have decided on HP. Our Bank relies on HP’s datacentre servers and storage systems with running our core banking and other applications.” “We believe that the HP networking solution offered by Imtac fulfills our requirement of very high reliability, proven performance and lower operational costs. With this upgrade we will be able to offer newer levels of service to our users and our customers.” he added.
“Winning this project has been very satisfying for us” commented Vinesh Malik, General Manager, IT Division, Imtac. Bank Dhofar decided to evaluate all available technologies with an open mind and we are glad that they chose the Imtac/HP combination. Imtac has implemented some of the largest network systems in the Sultanate, the largest being the one for Sultan Qaboos University. It has grown over the last four years to be an over 7000 active port network, built 100% on HP’s Procurve core and edge switches. Imtac has excellent credentials of implementing and supporting large mission critical networks.”
“We are very pleased that Bank Dhofar has selected HP technology for their network revamp. HP has emerged as a leading vendor of networking products both in switching and routing space. With HP’s highly reliable, high performance and scalable solution the Bank can be assured that its networking needs will be met for the years to come” commented Ivan Kraemer, Sales & marketing Director for HP’s Procurve networking business in the region.
The key point of this network revamp is a stringent 24×7 ‘Service Level Agreement’ which defines up to 99% uptime that Imtac will have to ensure on the network. Imtac will combine the competence of its Engineers, predictive diagnostics tools and almost 100% spare part availability to deliver the contractual service level.
Imtac, a regional IT solutions and services company offers complete solutions and consultancy across GCC in the field of campus networks, network management, VoIP solutions and Intelligent cabling solutions.
