University of Sharjah, Ministry of Education set to host 2nd Intel Science Competition – Arab World 2011

Set to take place from November 27th – 30th, the competition aims to encourage intermediate and secondary level students aged 14-18 to gain interest in scientific research and execute scientific and research projects based on the methodology and tenets of scientific research.

Commenting on hosting the competition for the first time in the UAE, Dr. Sami Mahmoud, Chancellor, University of Sharjah, stated, “Science and technology has the power to solve a multitude of global challenges from addressing healthcare issues through to the introduction of environmentally friendly technology across industries. Whatever the issue, technology is a powerful vehicle for change and empowerment. We believe that by partnering and working with Intel on this exciting competition we will enhance students’ enthusiasm for a career in the field of science and technology.”

This year, more than 120 students from 11 Arab countries will gather at the University to present 81 projects to an elite panel of judges that brings together university professors from several Arabic countries. Students will compete for financial awards and education scholarships from the University of Sharjah.

Sharifa Mousa, Director of Student Activities, UAE Ministry of Education, said, “We believe this competition will help students build up their science and research skills, whilst additionally instilling a competitive spirit in them. We are proud to be partnering with Intel and look forward to seeing the student’s creative projects.”

The Intel team looks forward to welcoming them in the UAE.”

Students and educations delegates from the UAE, Jordan, Saudi, Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia, Oman, Palestine, Lebanon, Egypt and Qatar will present the finest science projects from this year.
