The ‘Journey of Hope’ boat’s expedition, on a marathon worldwide mission, sailed off from Marina Crescent in Salmiya, Kuwait and docked at Port Ghalib International Marina – one of the world’s top marina ports and the first international private entry port in Egypt that accommodates up to 1,000 yachts.
The expedition aims to convey a global humanitarian message for the benefit of the mentally challenged, to propagate the cause of people with mental disabilities, and to highlight the need of being attentive to issues close to their hearts.
The multi-stationed tour idea was conceived by a group of parents with successful experiences dealing with their mentally disabled children including those suffering from Down syndrome, autism, learning difficulties and other conditions.
Under the patronage of HH Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the expedition will head to Washington DC and return to Kuwait in December 2014, covering 26,000 km in 7 months duration aboard a locally made Kuwaiti vessel. The boat’s journey will be celebrated in 19 countries and will stop in 39 ports on its way; it will sail to Europe before heading to Washington in order to deliver a special message to the Special Olympics – the world’s largest sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
InterContinental Hotels Group Resorts In Port Ghalib welcomed the expedition and hosted the whole group for a memorable stay full of exciting and entertaining activities at InterContinental The Palace Port Ghalib Resort, Crowne Plaza Sahara Sands Port Ghalib Resort, Crowne Plaza Sahara Oasis Port Ghalib Resort & Marina Lodge At Port Ghalib.
