The Aston Martin Racing with InterContinental Hotels & Resorts team – including drivers Darren Turner, Peter Kox and Rickard Rydell – as well as Middle East Aston Martin, are hosting three days of events including a two-day driving tour around two flagship InterContinental hotels in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The start and finish line for the three V8 Vantage road cars is InterContinental Dubai Festival City, the brand’s 150th hotel globally, which opened just last month.
While the team is also showcasing the revered DBR9 racing car at a specially designed track day and through live demonstrations of full ‘pit-stops’, InterContinental is hosting several events and specially designed destination experiences on route.
The initiative is part of a global partnership between InterContinental Hotels & Resorts and Aston Martin Racing, a division of the world’s most exclusive sports car company, aimed at highlighting the renowned, pioneering history of innovation of both brands and a shared, affluent new customer – one who genuinely understands that true luxury is about enjoying authentic experiences.
“We are thrilled to welcome the prestigious Aston Martin Racing Team here to celebrate the properties we have in the UAE and the exciting and diverse destinations the country has to offer,” said John Bamsey, Chief Operating Officer, InterContinental Hotels Group, Middle East and Africa. “Holding the latest Aston Martin Racing initiative in the UAE is a reflection of the increasing importance of the Middle East for the InterContinental brand, which opened the first luxury international hotel in the region with InterContinental Phoenicia in Beirut, Lebanon over 40 years ago.”
Following a full day at Dubai Autodrome and an Aston-Martin Racing themed evening reception at the newly opened InterContinental Dubai Festival City, day two of the UAE tour will start from the stunning new Dubai property on the banks of the picturesque creek. While the new-build, 500-room hotel is a landmark property being the 150th for the InterContinental brand globally, it is also set to have Pierre Gagnaire, the highly-awarded Michelin star chef specialising in ‘Modern French’ cuisine, open a restaurant on site next year.
The driving on day two includes a convoy made up of Aston Martin owners and concludes at the InterContinental with another exclusive celebration event attended by many high profile local dignitaries and guests. The property has played host to the world’s leading politicians and premiers for over 25 years, and has just re-opened its doors after a dramatic multi-million dollar expansion.
The final day will take the drivers from Abu Dhabi back to Dubai for a tour of the newly opened InterContinental property.
Globally, the InterContinental brand has 53 hotels currently in the pipeline.
