Intergence Systems has chosen Gitex 2010 to preview its new HyperGlance software, which uses sophisticated computer games graphics for 3D visualisation and navigation to create a real-time model of a company’s IT infrastructure. This breakthrough software then overlays financial and performance information on the 3D model, enabling IT management decisions based on business insight rather than technical whim. Intergence is taking pre-orders for HyperGlance in advance of the global launch in the first quarter of 2011.
While existing IT management tools often provide a visualisation capability, they are all 2D tools, and each one shows only a portion of the total infrastructure. IT managers struggle to combine information from multiple management products – one for servers, another for networks, another for storage, another for security, another for virtualisation, etc. it is clear why IT managers also struggle to help their non-IT peers and their executives understand the resources used by the business and how to use those resources more effectively.
With HyperGlance, IT managers can set up queries and “decorate” the images in the 3D model representing all the devices that meet their criteria. For example, all servers using >90% of their CPU can be decorated red, those using <10% decorated blue, and those within limits decorated green. Visual inspection allows correlation, and the model generates graphs of CPU utilisation over time for further analysis.
Peter Job, CEO and founder of Intergence Systems, said:
“HyperGlance enables ground breaking visualization of IT infrastructure by using 3D modelling techniques and physics engines from the computer games industry. This allows thousands of devices to be shown in ‘a single pane of glass’. In addition, users can zoom in, zoom out, rotate and navigate through the model just as they would navigate through a virtual world. When a customer troubleshoots a problem to find the root cause or they investigate capacity utilisation to determine how to better balance resource allocation, they need to see and understand detailed information in context.”
Underpinning the HyperGlance innovation is Intergence Systems’ ambitious programme to develop software and services to support organisations worldwide with their need to reduce ICT based power consumption, leveraging the company’s strong links with the academic and entrepreneurial communities within Cambridge, and which has won support from innovation funds granted by the UK government.
The company recently announced that it has joined ‘The Green Grid’ which is an influential consortium established to provide industry-wide recommendations on best practices, metrics and technologies that will improve overall data center energy efficiency. This represents an important development for Intergence Systems and its R&D Company, Intergence Optimisation, in its strategy to develop greener solutions for the ICT industry.
