INTERMA, is a Beirut based NGO committed to raising awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) and is for the second year the Intellectual Property Associate for the Zayed University E-Biz Challenge.
Since its launch on September 24, 2005, the challenge has visited over forty campuses to increase awareness and participation by students throughout the GCC region. This constitutes an increase of 180% over last year’s challenge. The roadshows have allowed the e-biz challenge team to meet, distribute and talk to students and faculty directly face-to-face throughout the GCC to promote creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Commenting on the challenge growth, Mr. Mostafa Farroukh of INTERMA said: “ITI’s committment to encouraging entrepreneurs and innovation in the region has enabled us to further cooperate on providing the needed protection for all parties involved in the challenge which include students, advisors, sponsors, judges, universities and the organizers”.
This year, protection was provided throughout the registration process which was done online via the Zayed University E-biz Challenge website. This eventually enabled both the teams and their advisors to interact and submit their business plans as well as provide detailed follow-up for the organizers.
Protecting ideas is one of the most challenging issues facing entrepreneurs especially in this region where awareness on IP rights hardly exists. On the other hand, the UAE is considered the leader in fighting software piracy and enforcing the protection on Intellectual Property Rights which makes it a safe platform for innovation.
