Dr Ellis met with the Prime Minister, Dr Marouf Bakhit; the Minister of Justice, Hussein Mujalli; and the Foreign Minister, Nasser Judeh as well as some of Jordan’s prominent lawyers on 20 April. The meetings were arranged by the IBA’s Middle East Office Director, Abeer Ghazi Jarrar, SJD, who also organised an event in Jordan for the Dubai Government which took place on 21 April and was attended by 250 delegates.
Dr Ellis, remarked, “The meetings with Jordan’s Government ministers and lawyers were very encouraging. There was much interest in the work the IBA is conducting in the Middle East, our future plans and the forthcoming IBA Annual Conference. The news that this will be the first time in the 64-year history of the IBA that our flagship event will be held in the Middle East was welcomed by all.”
He added, “Jordan’s decision makers and legal fraternity were supportive, and enthusiastic during discussions. This has further confirmed to me that assembling prominent regional and international lawyers and industry captains, from across the globe at the IBA’s annual conference in Dubai will create an excellent international environment for high-level exchanges, negotiations, networking and professional development. I hope Jordanian lawyers will be well represented.”
The 2011 International Bar Association (IBA) Annual Conference will take place at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre between 30 October and 4 November.
