International House, Emirates Canadian University College develop professionals in Umm Al Quwain

United Arab Emirates: Monday, September 16 - 2013 @ 00:00

This partnership aims to make available professional business English and academic English to school leavers, university students, and the wider workforce of UAQ.

Approximately 80 students from ECUC will enroll in September 2013 for the first batch of English Language Programmes in collaboration with IH Dubai. With increased exposure and awareness of the high-quality training being made newly available in the emirate, ECUC is targeting a 50% to 70% increase in student enrolment within two to three years.

ECUC is the initiative of His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Rashid Al Mu’alla, the Ruler of Umm Al Quwain. As the only university in Umm Al Quwain offering business, Mass Communications and English language courses. His Highness envisions the university contributing to the social, educational and economic development of the region. Partnering with an International House school brings the quality standards of the IH World Organisation to UAQ.

Speaking about the partnership and the programme, Ms. Clair Hattle, Director of IH Dubai, said, “As part of an organization celebrating 60 years and our own centre turning ten years old in the UAE, we look forward to sharing our depth of knowledge and expertise with the newest university in Umm Al Quwain and playing a part in its future successes.”

“This partnership extends our reach within the UAE and is coherent with our ongoing mission to raise training and education standards in the region,” Ms. Hattle added.

Both IH and ECUC work towards developing the competence of speakers of English as the language of business across the Emirates. An upsurge in student enrolment in English language Programmes and English Curriculum Development Initiatives will further this objective.

Mr. Sultan Alshaya, Head of ECUC Board, is positive about the collaboration and states, “Emirates Canadian University College (ECUC) commitment to quality in their work showed interest in the accredited programme, understanding the importance of English as a Universal Language. International House is one of the largest and oldest groups of language schools in the world and among the most prestigious, providing extraordinary quality and standard in English language education worldwide.”

He added that comprehending English – both spoken and written – will enable students to communicate more effectively – and with confidence – anywhere in the world.

Modules in the programme will provide ECUC students the opportunity to achieve academic success in the long run. The programme with IH Dubai involves practical skills-based language courses designed to promote the students’ communicative competence.

The foundation programme constitutes the foundation for the university degree programmes, covering all four skills of speaking, listening, writing and reading, across a series of graded levels, aligned to the Common European Framework of Reference for English. Other specific modules include Academic English, Business English, Exam preparation (IELTS) and Conversational English.

IH Dubai, the region’s most trusted professional and language training institute is committed to improving language and professional standards with their internationally accredited programmes. It continues to partner with preferred institutions, providing valuable opportunities to residents pursuing their personal and professional goals.
