Candidates do not have to take all 3 exams; however, they should begin at a realistic point in the exam series according to their general and legal English skills. All candidates who want to progress with their legal English studies should be extremely confident at TOLES Foundation level before continuing, as the vocabulary tested is fundamental and provides the building blocks of a candidate’s legal English skills.
“We are delighted to receive this latest vote of confidence from TOLES appointing IH Dubai as an official exam center in the UAE. Legal students and professionals will have an advantage in the highly competitive employment market by holding a legal English qualification recognized by major international law firms. The qualification will allow students to prove their ability in legal English and get ahead in their legal career as several leading law firms use TOLES in their recruiting and assessment processes including Allen & Overy LLP, Baker and McKenzie and Clifford Chance Punder. TOLES was developed based on the practical needs of law firms and, therefore, well respected by international law firms who recognize its relevance, practicality and accuracy. Dubai’s Judicial Institute has already signed an MOU with IH Dubai for TOLES examination training for their judges and we encourage other legal organizations to follow suit” stated Ben Naismith, Director of Studies at IH Dubai.
The 3-level series recognizes the need for learners to build knowledge and confidence from the early stages of study, leading to confidence in dealing with complex, authentic language they are expected to cope with in an international law firm.
TOLES Exam dates for the second half of 2012 are 23rd August and 22nd November.
