Isilon systems expands channel and customer base in Middle East and Africa

United Arab Emirates: Monday, November 20 - 2006 @ 15:12

Isilon has completed a comprehensive regional distribution agreement with Dubai-based Secureway distribution and will be demonstrating its technology at Gitex 2006 with Secureway at its stand (Z-P20). Gitex 2006 will also be the first public demonstration of Isilon’s new OneFS® 4.5 operating systems, the only clustered storage solution to reach one Petabyte of capacity and 10 Gigabytes per second of performance in a single file system and single volume.

“Demand for clustered storage is growing across the region,” said Fari Boustantchi, CEO, Secureway. “We have partnered with Isilon because it is the leader in this area and its technology offers many unique benefits in terms of capacity, performance and ease of implementation and support.”

Isilon also announced today the successful deployment of Isilon IQ by I2 TV in conjunction with regional channel partner Soft E.D.I.T, a specialist technology provider for TV Broadcast, Production and Transmission.

“Clustered storage is a perfect fit for efficiently storing and managing the unstructured data of TV broadcast and other related multimedia markets, especially as new digital distribution channels prompt broadcasters to move away from traditional tape and look to all digital production and distribution methods,” said Naiem Ayied, Managing Director, Soft E.D.I.T.

“We have worked with SAN and NAS for many years, and in comparison, Isilon’s clustered storage is effectively plug-and-play with better scalability and a high level of reliability.”

Using Isilon clustered storage, Soft E.D.I.T has helped its customer I2 TV deliver the region’s first completely digital television production and broadcast system. The I2 TV service, which is planned for launch later this year, will deliver television content to mobile handset devices.

“Isilon is focused on delivering the benefits of clustered storage to customers throughout the Middle East and Africa, including those in the media and petrochemical sectors,” said Phil Crocker, EMEA Marketing Director, Isilon Systems. “Our strategy is to establish long term relationships with a few key partners across the region and provide them with as much assistance as possible while allowing them to use their local knowledge, technical expertise and extensive contacts to advance sales across the region.”

Isilon is currently in the process of acquiring partners in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as well as ongoing trials with several customers on applications using video and other large unstructured data files such as seismic data for the petrochemical industry.

Digital content and unstructured data consume large amounts of storage capacity, grow much faster than traditional data stores, and require high throughput and often high concurrency. Isilon’s family of Isilon IQ products consists of high-performance clustered storage systems that combine an intelligent distributed file system with modular industry-standard hardware to deliver high simplicity and scalability.

Isilon IQ delivers the industry’s first single file system that unifies and provides instant and ubiquitous access to the rapidly growing stores of digital content and unstructured data, eliminating the cost and complexity barriers of traditional storage architectures. OneFS 4.5 is a unified operating system software layer that powers all of Isilon’s award-winning IQ family of clustered storage systems, including the Isilon IQ 1920, 3000, 6000, Accelerator, and EX 6000, which are available immediately.
