The exhibition will run until 30 November, within the prestigious surrounds of the Madinat Jumeirah, concurrently with an art exhibition of work by Italian artist Alfonso Borghi.
The driving vision of the exhibition is to showcase the art of Italian style, a highly evocative concept that conjours up a notion of desirability and a certain way of living. This objective has been met by bringing together a carefully chosen edit of just 13 Italian exhibitors, whose work is felt to be representative of the heart of Italian culture and society and of timeless artisan traditions; know-how that has been handed down through the centuries.
In addition, the event also underlines the importance of Italian culture within the UAE’s trade and commerce. Speaking of the close business relationship between Italy and the UAE, the Italian Ambassador Giorgio Starace commented, “Italy enjoys the unique position of offering both culture and business to international partners, and we are encouraged by the deep appreciation of our products in the UAE, especially in the furniture and design sector. We are noticing an upwards trend in UAE trade with Italy, and we attribute this to the developing cultural appreciation in the Emirates. Italian craftsmen also keen to locate in Dubai as the emerging strategic hub within the MENA region, and we look forward to seeing this relationship grow and evolve over the coming years, despite restricted times in Europe.”
Of the art exhibition Alessandra Priante, Italian Cultural Attaché for the Gulf notes, “We are very happy to have suggested an artistic touch to this important event. Alfonso Borghi is a very interesting artist who uses colour almost like a picture of the soul. His paintings have struck me from the very first time I saw them.”
“This combined force is a great moment of teamwork, pairing the efforts of the Italian Trade Commission with the Embassy and a number of other partners who have participated. It also blends some of Italy’s key attributes that can be shared with an international audience. We are known everywhere for our craftsmanship and attention to detail, innovation and creativity, especially when it comes to design. Art is a great complement to all these elements.”
