Tom Nutley, Chairman of ITTFA, believes “this new committee will generate a greater depth of understanding amongst the member shows and bring a fresh perspective to the recently-created association.”
“All appointments were aimed at strengthening the central administration of ITTFA and providing a firm base for the growth of the new association across international boundaries”, he continued.
Committee members begin their term of office this month and will remain in their respective roles until the next election at the AGM in June 2005.
ITTFA, which has recently evolved from the long-standing ETTFA, moved from European to International status earlier this year so as to grow the association on a worldwide basis and offer benefits and opportunities to all travel trade shows regardless of their location. ETTFA was established in 1992 and has been dedicated to raising its profile as an information source for the travel and exhibition industries since that time.
Chairman of ITTFA, Tom Nutley, said that the association had come a long way in the past decade, recognising the huge changes in the travel exhibition industry brought about by the growth in emerging markets, technology and the recognition of the value of the industry in general. He added that now seemed the right time to launch the new organisation.
Fiona Jeffery, Group Exhibition Director, was elected as president of ITTFA and also takes a second term as Media Relations officer. Nutley commented on the appointments, “WTM has been a long standing member of ETTFA and we are confident that Fiona’s knowledge of the association coupled with her vast experience in both the travel and tourism and exhibition industries will successfully steer this course of the new association.”
Ms Jeffery commented on her role; “Over the years ETTFA has raised the profile of travel and tourism exhibitions across Europe and I look forward to the challenge of taking the association into an international arena and to welcoming members from all areas of the globe. It will be an exciting first year for ITTFA, broadening our member base and sharing experiences and opportunities with members from all cultures and backgrounds.”
Frederique Maurell, International Director of ITE Travel Exhibitions, was elected Vice President and also continues as Treasurer. She commented, “Our latest AGM in Dubai confirmed that we are achieving what we set out to do and that is helping to provide quality events that meet our ever-increasing customer demands. This is very satisfying and the energy of ITTFA is proof that we are all eager to do even more. I am proud to be part of this committee and look forward to another successful year.”
Other appointments to the Executive Committee include Johan Lundberg, Director of TUR, Sweden, as Membership Officer; Klara Tihanyi, Director of Utazas in Hungary, takes on the role of Sponsorship Officer and Zeljka Tomljenovic, of ITE Travel Exhibitions continues as WTO Relations Officer.
