Working in a multi-national Joint Venture led by Aktor SA of Greece (ADCC), Jewers Doors will design, manufacture and install two sets of its Esavian doors totalling almost 400m wide by 27m high for the Aircraft Maintenance Centre. Each of the two giant hangar bays can accommodate two A380 aircraft and the Esavian doors are scheduled to be installed by the end of 2010.
Jewers Doors will also design, manufacture and install two sets of Esavian doors, the largest being 222m wide by 22m high, for the hangars in the new Emiri Terminal complex at NDIA for VIP flights. These doors will be completed by the end of 2009.
Jewers Doors has supplied doors all around the world for all the latest generation of giant hangars built for A380 aircraft – nearly 30 sets of doors to date. Esavian doors have been developed over many years and now incorporate sophisticated control systems and safety features. They also have excellent insulation – an important feature in both warm and cool climates.
Managing director, Chris Jewers, says:
“We’re very pleased to be involved with the New Doha International Airport and the award of these contracts reflects the company’s excellent reputation and the skills and innovation of our workforce.”
Jewers Doors was started in 1983 by Nigel Jewers and is still family owned. Nigel’s three sons are directors in the business – Chris Jewers (managing director), Mark Jewers (Phoenix director) and Jonathan Jewers (Esavian director). Nigel retired from full-time involvement with the business a few years ago but maintains a keen interest in the engineering side of the business as well as taking on the rôle of acting company secretary.
Jewers Doors designs, manufactures and installs aircraft hangar doors under its Esavian trade name; industrial doors under the Phoenix brand. From modest beginnings 25 years ago, Jewers Doors now undertakes contracts throughout the world for governments, armed forces and private companies.
In 2008, the Phoenix team completed its largest contract by manufacturing and installing 350 sets of Swift bi-fold and Osprey multi-leaf folding doors for garages, workshops and stores buildings at Colchester Garrison, Essex, England.
The first of a new range of Phoenix doors was launched in September and has established new standards for speed of operation, safety and minimising impact on the environment.
