By receiving this recognition the Jordan GBC joins 24 countries who have achieved the highest member status according to the World GBC ranking. This comes after receiving its Emerging member status in November 2010.
“The World Green Building Council is excited to announce the formal acceptance of Jordan GBC as the 25th country to have a fully established GBC,” said Jane Henley, CEO of the World Green Building Council. “This is a significant milestone demonstrating the power of industry in driving the uptake of sustainable building in Jordan.”, also Mohammad Asfour Jordan GBC chairman added that “This millstone couldn’t have materialized without the support of our members and friends in both the public & private sectors. We hope this achievement will help in positioning Jordan as a center of excellence in green buildings.”
Jordan GBC is part of a global network of 90 GBCs worldwide currently there are 25 Established GBCs and 66 further countries establishing Councils at different stages of Council development. The Jordan Green Building Council contributed to the shift towards building in a sustainable and responsible manner by educating industry leaders, consulting with policy makers, and sharing knowledge and best practices within the global GBC Network. Furthermore the Jordan GBC holds the authority to represent the World Green Building Council (WGBC) in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
The rapidly growing GBC Network world wide currently represent over 50 percent of the global construction activity and touches more than 35,000 companies and organizations worldwide. The global GBC Network is leading the movement that is globalizing environmentally and socially responsible building practices.
