KVU prepares youngsters for school by following a gradual separation process which is essential for children to build a positive and trusting relationship with both their teachers and new classmates.
According to childhood development experts, traditional ‘drop off’ programs place an unnecessary anxiety on both the child and parent by making the first day of school a nerve-wracking and tear-filled experience. Children’s fear of strangers, in addition to separation issues, intensifies the drama of this first time experience. To avoid this, the KVU program is founded on enabling children to feel secure.
Kidville’s Managing Director, Monica Malhotra, explains, “Teachers need to gain children’s trust by providing a place where little ones can get to know their new surroundings and turn these strangers into ‘friends’, while having the security of a familiar face in the room, which is where parents come in. As the child acclimates to the classroom and begins to engage with materials and other children, they are provided with many rich learning experiences.”
The KVU program also allows the class to be tailored to the children’s interests, by focusing on an emerging curriculum. “If the teacher notices that her class has a particular interest in dinosaurs for example, she has the freedom to center her next lesson plan on that theme, and read and sing about or base art projects on dinosaurs,” clarifies Monica. “I often have parents tell me they wish they had these kinds of programs when they were a child.”
Kidville does not limit its services to classes and KVU; indoor and outdoor playspaces, cool haircuts at the salon and a retail boutique complete the upscale offering. To benefit from this unique and practical experience for both parent and child, and receive offers and discounts for all these services, parents become Kidville members by signing up their young ones for a class.
Kidville has risen to another challenge and addressed a growing concern in Dubai for parents and especially, new moms: the lack of support groups and the challenge of living far away from family and friends. Kidville ensures a nurturing and community-oriented environment where moms and dads can discuss parenting issues, exchange advice, or benefit from early childhood specialists’ support.
Following the summer semester which started on July 11, Kidville’s fall semester classes are set to begin on September 5, at JBR, Rimal 5, Plaza Level.
