This is a part of the OCCI efforts, represented by its committee in Al Batinah Region, to highlight the investment areas, the constituents and potentials of Sohar in particular, and Al Batinah Region in general. This will also familiarize entrepreneurs and investors with the Sultanate and the neighboring countries with the investment climate and the advantages and facilities accorded to investment in the various governorates and regions of the Sultanate.
By organizing this international conference, the first of its kind in Al Batinah Region, OCCI aims to stimulate investment in the Sultanate in support of the government efforts to diversify its economy in various parts of the Sultanate.
At the press conference held yesterday at OCCI head office, Shaikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Badi, OCCI Board Member, Chairman of the OCCI Committee in Al-Batinah Region, and Head of Conference Organizing Committee stated that, “Sohar Investment Opportunities Conference which will be held in Sohar on 20th and 21st of February will be inaugurated under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad bin Tariq Al Said. It will be attended by a number of ministers and senior officials, and a large number of businessmen and businesswomen from within the Sultanate and abroad. The opening ceremony will include the opening remarks from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and OCCI in order to shed light on the future government plans in Al-Batinah Region and Sohar in particular in the light of the current and future projects.”
He pointed out that His Excellency Shaikh Saleh Kamel, Head of the GCC Chambers Federation and President of the Islamic Chamber will deliver a speech at the conference and that various international entities shall participate in the conference with specialized working papers, including the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting Corporation, Arab Investment Guarantee Corporation and Gulf Investment Corporation.
Al-Badi also indicated that at the conference there will be a number of working papers of government agencies about investment opportunities and fields in Sohar as well as the facilities and privileges granted to investment.
“The Ministry of National Economy; Ministry of Tourism; Ministry of Labor; Ministry of Higher Education; Ministry of Education; Sultan Qaboos University; Supreme Committee for Town Planning; University of Sohar; along with a number of large investment companies in Sohar such as Sohar Industrial Port Company; Sohar Aluminum Company; Vale International; Oman Polypropylene; Oman Refineries and Petrochemicals Company; Jindal (Shadeed Iron); Oil Tanking Company; Oman International Container Company; and Stnoiq Oman, shall present their recent investment experience in Sohar and illustrate the gains from investment,” Al-Badi added.
“Al-Batinah Region is currently witnessing major economic development and investment changes, most notably the establishment of Greater Sohar Industrial Estate, which consists of Sohar Industrial Port Area, Sohar Free Zone, Sohar Industrial Estate, Sohar Airport and Sohar Train Station and other investments, business and tourist aspects. This is in addition to other mega projects in Al-Batinah Region, such as the Coastal Road, Blue City in Barka, Sports City in Al-Musanah, and heavy industrial projects in Sohar, such as the Aluminum Factory, Vale Company, Oman Polypropylene, Oman Aromatics and Oman Methanol to mention only a few. All these are favorable opportunities to open new investment horizons in Sohar in many areas,” added Al-Badi.
“We hope that the Conference will be a good kickoff to open new horizons for introducing the most important business and investment opportunities available in Al-Batinah Region, and attract more domestic and foreign investments whether in Sohar or other Wilayats of Al-Batinah Region and include all sectors of industry, tourism and business,” he concluded.
The Head of OCCI Committee in Al-Batinah Region thanked all participants from the companies and private sector institutions that sponsor and support this conference.
