Republic of Bangladesh and Oman Insurance Company sign insurance coverage agreement

Oman: Thursday, February 04 - 2010 @ 15:32

Under the aegis of this contract, the sponsor has to avail this insurance cover for the domestic worker, which will provide compensation for death, accidental medical expenses, repatriation expenses, legal expenses etc.,

This is a path breaking initiative from Consulate General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dubai in partnership with Oman Insurance in an area that has been crying for help for a long time. But then, innovative ideas in insurance are a regular occurrence at Oman Insurance Company.

Says CEO of Oman Insurance Company, Mr. Abdul Muttalib Mustafa Al Jaidi:

“At Oman Insurance Company, we don’t just innovate new products. We also make sure that these products are beneficial to a large section of our customers. In this case, this is not the first initiative from Oman Insurance Company to this segment; a similar initiative was launched and is very successful with the Consulate General of Srilanka, Dubai.”

Domestic helps are an exploited and generally neglected lot. So, as a conscientious company that cares for its customers, it was important for us to continue the development of products that are dedicated to secure the lives of domestic workers. Our signing of the Contract with the Consulate General of Bangladesh, Dubai is further proof of our commitment to serve the society where it matters the most.”

H.E. Md. Abu Zafar, the Counsel General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dubai said: “Bangladesh Consulate general in Dubai has formally signed an agreement with Oman Insurance Company with regard to secure and well being of the domestic workers coming to the Emirate of Dubai and other northern emirates from Bangladesh. This contract will provide a mechanism for ensuring welfare of Bangladeshi Housemaids who feel insecure and astrayed being in a foreign workplace. This event will go a long way in providing solace to their family members back home. This contract will work as a perfect example of public and private collaboration ”

An initiative of this nature wouldn’t be possible without the active commitment to new product development on the part of the company. The product is designed in such a way that the onus is on the sponsor to protect the domestic worker he or she is bringing to the country. In a country where the workers’ rights are protected and streamlined with the active involvement of the government, at least a section of domestic workers can now feel secure with the new innovation from Oman Insurance. For the downtrodden and underprivileged domestic workers – those that hail from Bangladesh – the contract signed between Consulate General of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Dubai and Oman Insurance Company comes as a boon.
