Oman Ministry of Tourism to consolidate status as a premier destination for Saudis at 2014 Riyadh Travel Fair

: Thursday, April 17 - 2014 @ 15:27

Oman Ministry of Tourism is set to highlight the Sultanate’s status as the one of the top destinations of choice for Saudi tourists during its participation at the Riyadh Travel Fair 2014, the latest edition of Saudi Arabia’s largest travel and tourism exhibition. Oman continues to attract a significant number of visitors from Saudi Arabia for its various tourism offerings and sites. In 2013, around 17,000 Saudis visited the Sultanate for Khareef Salalah. The ministry aims to sustain this growth and achieve further market expansion by joining the four-day show from April 15 to 18, 2014 at the Four Season Hotel, Riyadh.

During the event, the ministry will showcase the diversity and appeal of Omani’s major tourist attractions and vacation spots, including the southern city of Salalah and various ancient sites which have been included in UNESCO’s ‘World Heritage List.’ More than 15,000 visitors are expected to attend the show this year to discover the world’s exotic domestic and international destinations.

Ghasi Humaid Al Hashmi, Deputy Director General of Tourism Promotion, Oman Ministry of Tourism, said: “We have undertaken several developments and campaigns to boost the Sultanate’s tourism sector over the past years. Our efforts include continuous improvement of our infrastructures, enhancement of our services, and implementation of awareness campaigns to consistently attract international visitors. I am happy to say that we are seeing good results from these strategic measures. Notably, Oman is enjoying an influx of tourists from Saudi Arabia, majority of whom are visiting Salalah. The show definitely offers great opportunities for us to feature the rich cultural heritage and history of the Sultanate to Saudis and other visitors from abroad.”

Oman remains one of the most diverse environments in the Middle East region. It has also been highly successful in establishing itself as a prime destination for cultural tourism. Its capital, Muscat, was named the Second Best City to visit in the world in 2012 by Lonely Planet, the renowned travel guide publisher. Among Oman’s local tourist attractions are the stunning nature, beaches, old-world souqs (markets), forts, ancient settlements and tombs, and UNESCO-recognized heritage sites. Visitors can also engage in trekking and rock climbing, turtle, dolphin and bird watching, and desert safaris, among other exciting activities.
