Oman Road Safety Association (ORSA) participated in ‘Connecting Oman by Rail to the GCC’ conference held at Grand Hyatt Muscat recently.
The event, organised by Silver Star Corporation and Nispana (India), brought together regional and international experts from the rail sector to discuss best practices in the industry.
Ahmed bin Khalfan Al Zaabi, Board Member of ORSA, presented a paper on ‘Enhancing Road Safety by Using Rails’ that identified safety guidelines and ways to minimise risk factors around railroads.
On the occasion, Amor bin Nasser Al Matani, Chairman of ORSA said, “The challenges of road safety, climate change, increasing congestion and fuel costs mean we need to find smarter, controlled and monitored ways to travel. Multimodal travel using different types of transport for one journey such as rail is part of the answer.”
He added, “We are delighted to take part in ‘Connecting Oman by Rail to the GCC’ conference and hope that Oman Road Safety Association brought attention to the required safety measures for projects of this scale to ensure safer transportation for every user’.”
Ahmed bin Khalfan Al Zaabi, ORSA Board Member said, “Studies show that human error is behind most traffic accidents and this can be avoided by making the railway the chosen mode of transportation. With main lines constructed away from residential neighbourhoods and the employment of professionally trained drivers, the rail system will enhance the overall safety of citizens and road users.”
