Traffic Safety Expo 2013: Telecommunications play a major role in the promotion of road safety

: Thursday, November 07 - 2013 @ 10:00

Telecommunications play a very significant role in today’s age of infrastructure technology and ultra-modern society, and especially crucial to the promotion of road safety awareness in the Sultanate.

The 4th Traffic Safety Expo, scheduled from November 11 to 14 at the Oman International Exhibition Center, and jointly organized by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and Omanexpo, welcomes the presence and support of its telecommunications partner Oman Telecommunications Company (OMANTEL) and official radio stations Merge 104.8FM and Al Wisal 96.5FM.

Time and again, the use of these vital media to communicate the message and help spread the road safety word has proven powerful and effective and has gained positive results since the government and private organizations started the campaign. The ROP has been regularly using telecommunications facilities to promote the campaign via the short messaging system (SMS). This form of information transmission has served as an indispensable factor especially during public holidays such as Ramadan and Eid, when danger and accident risk are at its peak.

Useful and timely SMS messages sent by the ROP’s Civil Defense Directorate warning drivers about the dangers of driving through wadis when flooded and when there is a considerable amount of rainfall are most helpful. Patrons of Traffic Safety Expo will also be able to download supplied content from their websites related to road and traffic safety.

The 2013 edition, reinforcing ROP’s message “Your safety is our aim,” at the same time centering on the message “Traffic safety is everyone’s responsibility,” has also started the awareness campaign since September through daily broadcasts highlighting safety culture and best practices.

Positive feedback taken from the general public about the effectiveness of the use of these forms of media to convey the safety message serves to strengthen and give more meaning to the safety initiative.

Traffic Safety Expo, a showcase of the latest and innovative local and international road safety solutions, will open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m. every day.

Automotive Group – Mitsubishi Lancer Fortis. Many more exciting prizes will be given with the
