With a growing customer base, Vodafone’s use of QDC will allow the company to extend its switching and billing equipment for their mobile network and deploy new core equipment for their broadband business.
Since the launch of the Qtel Data Centre in 2006, Qtel has provided Qatar’s leading companies with comprehensive local and international connectivity, security and protection.
Dr. Nasser Marafih, Chief Executive Officer, Qtel, said:
“This agreement today marks a major building block towards creating a sustainable shared infrastructure. Infrastructure sharing has already paved the way to a pervasive infrastructure platform for e-government that supports open IP (Internet Protocol) technologies, driving consistency, reliability and interoperability.”
“Qtel has invested significantly in the expansion of our Data Centre services, so that companies in Qatar and across the region can benefit from the latest in hosting and managed services,” added Dr. Nasser.
“This agreement is another important step forward in the collaboration between Vodafone Qatar and Qtel in the field of infrastructure sharing. Vodafone does very successful infrastructure sharing with other telecommunication operators in many other markets all over the world and we’re pleased to be implementing this best practice here in Qatar,” said Mr. Grahame Maher, CEO, Vodafone Qatar.
“Vodafone Qatar is committed to improving the practice of infrastructure sharing in Qatar like tower sharing and in-building solution sharing. Sharing opportunities not only makes economic sense, but is much more environmentally friendly and, of course, more aesthetically pleasing to the Qatari landscape,” he continued.
Qtel Data Centre will provide a controlled environment that optimises the deployment of fundamental components such as power, cooling, and networking systems to Vodafone Qatar. Additionally, Vodafone Qatar will have the freedom to focus on its business, while Qtel Data Centre will provide it with end-to-end services as required.
Qtel Data Centre was the first world class data centre in the region to provide local and regional customers with a full range of Enterprise Hosting, Managed and Professional Services. Qtel Data Centre’s fully-redundant facility has been designed and deployed in compliance with world-class carrier standards and best industry standards.
