Previously coffee was only imported from countries such as Canada, Italy and the USA and normally only as an espresso blend.
“With the Orbis Roastery importing green beans from around the world, high quality single bean varieties and blends are now available here”, explains General Manager, Francis Falconer. “We realised that there was a gap in the market as nobody was roasting high quality beans here rather than importing from abroad” We are roasting in small batches of just 1.5Kg over a 45 minute slow roast. “This dramatically increases bean quality and therefore flavour. We also blend our beans after roasting, to further improve quality” says Francis.
Individuals also have the opportunity to create their own blend through tailored tasting sessions. This blend will be owned by the individual who can re-order at any time and have the beans sent to them worldwide. “This is unique to Dubai” explains Francis, “As far as we know there is no other roastery where an individual can create a blend for their lifetime after an hour of fun and slurping” The blend will remain confidential to that individual or family and will also be stored in a special ‘blend book’ at the Roastery.
Orbis has a final trick up its sleeve in that it has the rarest coffee in the world Kopi Luwak. “We have a solid and trusted supplier of Kopi Luwak” explains Francis “and we consider ourselves fortunate to be able to have a very limited supply for our market here.”
The Roastery which is located in Al Lahbab on the Dubai to Hatta road is open to the public from 3pm to 8pm daily.
