Q.Media events challenges world record at Doha Trade Fair

Qatar: Thursday, May 26 - 2011 @ 15:50

The board will be on display in a specially constructed “Fun Zone” located off the main hall at the Doha Exhibition Center. Q.Media Events will attempt to set the new world record after completing a fun-filled challenging, life-size game of Monopoly that will kick off with a roll of the dice on Saturday, June 4 from 4pm onwards. This one of a kind event will offer entertainment for all ages, an experience not to be missed.

A representative from Guinness World Records Limited will adjudicate the game which will be played on a UK Parker Brothers Monopoly board. The official game rules of Monopoly will apply and functional game pieces including die, houses and hotels, all built to size will be used. The participants from Q.Media Events will stand in for the playing tokens.

He added, “I am very excited to be here in Qatar and especially on this occasion where Q.Media Events is making their best attempt to break the Guinness World Records with the largest board game, Monopoly, at the Doha Trade Fair. The game is all about trade, business, selling and buying and so is this exhibition, and therefore, the event is the perfect fit for the game.”

“I do hope that people enjoy this oversized Monopoly game, the board, the real house and hotels look-alike, and the huge dice. I also hope that Qatar breaks the Guinness World Records, as I believe the country is exerting great effort in developing in many areas and I am hopeful it will succeed,” said Talal Omar, Adjudications Manager, Guinness World Records Ltd.

After the attempt at breaking the world record, the board game will be open to active Facebook fans to try their expertise at becoming the ultimate property landlord. A thrilling series of Monopoly games will be held from June 5 through June 13. Teams of two will compete against each other on the exclusive Monopoly board to gain as many Monopoly points as possible. The team with the most points at the end of the competition will win a grand prize: a brand new car.

Monopoly points are gained by owning properties and charging other teams rent when landing on them. Properties can be owned by landing on the property and answering the given question correctly. Question topics will cover: geography, sport, art and culture, history and general knowledge.

Under the new concept, “Shop the world,” the 2011 Doha Trade Fair will be the largest shopping event of the year, offering something for everyone. As well as the wide array of new products from 30 different countries and the Guinness World Records challenge, DTF will also offer a spectacle of events for children including fun games, a daily parade. There is also the chance to win a selection of fun and valuable prizes via the Doha Trade Fair Facebook page by participating in online quizzes such as guessing the country which identified monuments represent.

Eligibility to play the Monopoly game will be based on the level of interactivity as a fan on the Doha Trade Fair Facebook page.

The Doha Trade Fair, organized by Qatar Tourism Authority in collaboration with Q.Media Events, held under the patronage of H.E Sheikh Khalifa Bin Jassim Bin Mohammed Al-Thani, Chairman of Qatar Chamber of Commerce & Industry (QCCI), will run from June 4 to June 13. Opening times are from 10:00am until 10:00pm daily, and on Friday from 2:00pm until 10:00pm.
