Qatar’s leading non-profit education and community development organization, Reach Out To Asia (ROTA), launched the first 8-day house renovation activity on Friday 23rd May as part of its new groundbreaking pilot Project “Reach Into Qatar”. Sponsored by Msheireb Properties, the project aims to extend community development assistance across Qatar outside of Doha.
Seventeen female ROTA volunteers are making a real difference in the life of one of the less fortunate families in Sailiyah. The family’s modest home is now undergoing a full makeover by the motivated and skilled girls, who are showing a great spirit of excitement and enthusiasm and working hard to accomplish their mission by 31st May. Tasks include cleaning out the house, scraping and plastering the walls before painting the walls then assembling and installing the new furniture. Qatar Foundation’s Facilities Management Directorate are also contributing by carrying out essential maintenance and repairs to the house.
Sponsored by Msheireb Properties, the volunteer-led initiative effectively aligns with the company’s mission that aims to “change the way people think about urban living and improve their overall quality of life, through innovations that encourage social interaction, respect for culture, and greater care for the environment”.
“ROTA’s Volunteer Program activities aim to develop the skills of volunteers, raise their awareness of community needs and engage them in a meaningful and positive way. Renovating houses allows us to achieve this while making a tangible and sustainable impact on the quality of life of less fortunate families in our community,” says ROTA National Programs Director Mr. Mohammed Saleh.
The ROTA volunteers gathered early in the morning and began by cleaning, scraping and repairing the walls. After taking a well-deserved break, they continued with their hard work renovating the house.
Fatma Almutawa, one of the volunteers said, “We are proving that we, the girls of Qatar, can do something for others. We can work with our hands and we are serious about what we are doing. ROTA’s initiative has given us a great chance to experience the real meaning of giving.”
Kholoud Khalil, another excited volunteer, added “I have always believed in giving back to the community and was excited to help a family in need of a better home. When ROTA asked for volunteers for the ‘Reach Into Qatar’ Project, I was ready to take on the challenge of renovating a home for a deserving family.”
In the first pilot year of the project, ‘Reach Into Qatar’ will focus on providing quarterly House Renovations for families in need in communities across Qatar. The project comes in line with ROTA’s strategic goal of developing high impact, sustainable, quality, cost effective and innovative programs that are based on research, responding to changing environments and reflecting the real priorities of local communities.
